Fine Wine, Magic, and Reunion Energize WCTM "California Chaos" Meeting
Is the California Election a
real bear? Topicmaster Marsha Hunt, CTM,
sought answers to that and other questions in our meeting last month. California
Chaos was
the most
on-point theme WCTM has had
in recent memory: Inside, our members were discussing the merits of the California
Gubernatorial election, while outside of our conference room door, hordes of
Bryman College graduates were collecting their diplomas and giving speeches of
their own.
Long absent
Toastmaster emeritus and guest Bob Basch took the Table Topics ribbon with his
cynical take on the election, proving once again that the refreshing power of cynicism can
sometimes win people's not-so-cynical hearts.
David DeFore took top
speaking honors with his "How to Host a Wine Tasting Party", a speech
performed with energy, creativity, and plenty
of frivolously tossed props, not to mention a sampling of exceptional
wines (which were not tossed)
a rare treat.
Our other speakers included Marc Cohn with his tale of high school reunions, and Rose Lane, DTM reminded us of the delights of The Magic Castle, that hallowed house of mystery, deception, and terrific presentation skills.
John Graves seized the evening in the evaluation segment, capturing the ribbon with his review of Rose's Magic Castle speech.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

My Dear Fellow Toastmasters,
“To each man let comes his Due.” I know someone famous said that. It wasn’t
Monty Python, but someone else famous. But the point is that our Dues and Room Fees are
Due….Past Due. So, If you haven’t paid them yet, please bring
a check for the dues and room fees to the meeting this Thursday.
Remember, this is a TAX DEDUCTIBLE expense. This is a business expense. Toastmasters is a Professional Organization. Our Toastmaster Dues are $36.00 every six months and the room fees are $55.00 every three months. What a bargain and a tax deduction, too!!!!! Where else can you get dinner, coffee, tea, entertainment, knowledge, self improvement and in my case, therapy, for such a small amount of $$$$?
So as you joyfully write out your
check, just remember: if you don’t give it to us,
you'll be giving it to the government. And we are a lot more
fun.
Our next meeting is going to be a REAL THRILL. We will be running the gamut
from an ice breaker to someone closing in on her CTM, to someone closing in on
their ATM to one of our most accomplished speakers ever, Marshall Blonstein. THIS IS GOING TO BE A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE FOR EVERYONE.
So, be there or be square. As I have told many of you, sometimes before a
meeting I am just exhausted and burnt out from work, kids, the house, you name it.
But when I go to Toastmasters, my energy gets revved up and I feel so much better. In fact, I feel great! Toastmasters is exhilarating for me. And
I know it can be and will be for you, too.
Looking forward to seeing you all This Thursday Night.
Have Fun,
Marsha
