"Nobody's Shalom" Enters Oscar Race for Short Films

"Nobody's Shalom", a 35mm movie with Dolby Stereo sound design and mix from Command Post, has entered the 2008 Oscar race for best short. An Arabic Muslim motel owner saves the life of an Orthodox Jewish man who's been violently beaten in a hate crime robbery by hiding him in one of the rooms of his motel.

The fertile mind behind this darkly comedic production is the movie's director, veteran character actor Jullian Dulce Vida. Jullian's ambition is to get to the top of the heap in the Oscar race for 2008. He has also submitted the film to Sundance.

"This was a foley-intensive sound package, with everything from footsteps and punches to highly tweaked automobile skids." remarks supervising sound editor John. "We got off to a great start with outstanding production sound, but still there was a need for some ADR."

Dulce Vida was pleased with the results. "I gotta say it's been great working along side you my friend. I told my agent you are a true pro." We feel the same way about Jullian.

Lab work was done by Deluxe and the optical sound shot by NT Audio.

Command Post Music to be Repped by Getty Images

John C Graves' film music has been heard in trailers from Inside Man to Chronicles of Riddick to Bourne Supremacy, thanks to sales agent Spider Cues. And his list of feature scores includes Le Magique, Tokyo Mafia, Sisters of Sin, and Kill or Be Killed. (Check out some of the MP3's here.)

Now Pump Audio, a division of Getty Images, has signed on to represent John in the worldwide marketplace.

"This is really exciting", remarked John. "Pump Audio is a New York based firm with the world's largest client base, and they seem gratified to have me on their roster."

Command Post's most recent major score was "Pull", directed by Andrew Shortell, a comic satire of racing movies that sported a country western sound.

"Cast Shadows" Plumbs the Depths of Surrealism

Phill Schwartz is the mastermind behind the surreal and mind-bending imagery and the dramatic, dialogue-driven story of "Cast Shadows", a High Definition drama mixed in Dolby Stereo at Command Post this past November.

Estranged from his father, the central character of the movie recounts the struggles, lost romances, and failed relationships of his life.

"Phill was looking for some surreal sound design to go with the surreal, processed imagery," remarks sound designer John Graves. "Both music and effects are twisted, distorted, reversed, and undulating." Command Post pulled out all the stops with a full compliment of plug-ins and inboard and outboard processing, including the Eventide H3000.

"At some threshold it crosses into a sculptural process -- you're adding and subtracting layers," Schwartz commented.

Harris' "A Simple Promise" Goes To Final Remix

MTV British music personality Layla Kayleigh is the star of Diana and Earnest Harris' new hi-def movie, A Simple Promise, recently featured at the 2007 La Femme Film Festival in Beverly Hills. The 93 minute film has already been signed for distribution.

Two aspiring artists, one a painter (Wallace Demarria'), the other a singer, meet and fall in love. Along the way, they make a promise to each other that whoever makes it first, the other will give up their dream of artistic success to support the other.

Command Post reworked the Simple Promise soundtrack, originally mixed in Toronto, Canada. "We added a lot of fx and overhauled the dialogue," remarked John. Command Post also added some music from it's exclusive music library to round out this touching story of love and professional conflict.

And last but not least, Command Post created a new end title crawl for "A Simple Promise", utilizing it's new quad core PC, running Aftereffects.

Gravic Design Creates Site and Sound for New Eatery

Jazzy Blues has recruited Gravic Design (a division of Command Post) to create a website for their new French Creole restaurant in Lancaster/Palmdale, "Catfish Gumbo"

Headed by Executive Chef Marcus Webster, Jazzy Blues recently catered a wedding at Jerry Bruckheimer's 400 acre ranch in Ojai. Catfish Gumbo is a retail dining experience that will feature a sumptuous combination of high-end entrees, salads, sandwiches, and desserts, utilizing shrimp, crab, and crawfish among the core offerings of an innovative and exciting menu.

John Narrates "Heart of Winning Negotiation"

Soraya Deen, self-proclaimed "Peace Guru", and Toastmasters' 2006 Area Governor, recently engaged Command Post to produce an audio CD called "The Heart of Winning Negotiation." Though she is a public speaker herself, Soraya hired Command Post's very own John Graves to voice 90 percent of the presentation. Click here for an audio excerpt.

"It's been great working with Soraya on this, and the project has demonstrated to me how critical vocal versatility is to making a powerful delivery," he commented. "This was my first major voiceover job, and I am so pleased to be on Soraya's team."
